Michael D. Dawson, MA, LPC founded his practice in 2001 and has been active in his field since 1977. Michael began his career as a Correctional Case Manager for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. In 1997, Michael went on to become a Resident Chaplain at Port Adventist Hospital in Denver Colorado. In 1996, Michael received his Ministry Ordination and joined The Village Chapel ministry staff part-time in 1997.
During his time in Ministry, Michael realized his passion and gift as a Christian Counselor and began pursuing his calling in 2001 where he joined the Heritage Christian Counseling Center as an Intern. Soon after, Michael opened his practice specializing in grief and loss and Equine Assisted Therapy.
In 2001 Michael co-designed and co-facilitated Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) research project to determine the effect of EAP on the outcomes of therapy conducted in adult male substance addicted population in a residential treatment facility.
Today, Michael continues his practice and presents and holds workshops on various topics such as Horses Healing Grief, Children and Grief, Grief Counseling and Grief Support. Michael also hosts Horses Healing Grief Mini Day Camps providing children’s grief support using Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP).
Michael holds a MA in Guidance Counseling and a BA in Speech. He is a licensed Professional Counselor – LPC#3862 and is certified as a Level I, Equine Assisted Growth and Learning professional.
Michael is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors, the American counseling Association, the Association of Death Education and Counseling and the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association.
Michael is author of Horses Healing Grief and various articles such as Minding My Own Grief, In Green Pastures: Horses Comfort Children’s Grief, and A Dream of Horse Assisted Pastoral Care.
